Nevada side, Lake Tahoe
Elk Point
A gated lakefront community between Round Hill Pines and Nevada Beach, run by its own club since the 1920s.
About Elk Point
Where it is
Elk Point sits on Lake Tahoe’s east shore, a few miles north of Stateline, between Round Hill Pines and Nevada Beach. It is a gated community. Its neighbor, Nevada Beach, is a Forest Service beach and campground reached from Highway 50 by Elks Point Road.
How it began
Members of the Reno Elks Club bought 25 acres of shoreline here in 1921, and the group became Elk Point Country Club in 1925. The homes today run from century-old cabins to newly built houses.
How the community is organized
Elk Point Country Club is a Nevada nonprofit corporation that works much like a homeowners association. Members own their homes. The club holds the shared property: the roads and parking, the beach and beach deck, an inland harbor with boat slips, boat storage, and the community’s own private water system. The harbor and beach serve members, not the public.
Sewer service comes from the Elk Point Sanitation District, formed in 1969. The community is a recognized Firewise USA site.

Stormwater BMPs
Every developed property in the Tahoe Basin must install and maintain TRPA-approved stormwater Best Management Practices. Their status is disclosed to the buyer when a home sells.

Existing moorings must be registered and permitted with TRPA, and the registration is renewed each year. New moorings are allocated by lottery.

Douglas County caps the number of vacation-rental permits in the Tahoe Township, limits their share of each neighborhood, and treats a permit as discretionary rather than a right. Association rules can add their own limits.
